PORTFOLIO TIME

Here are some of the highlights of my portfolio that I am submitting to/have shown to art schools. They are not in the order I presented them.

Bird Ladies and Dinosaur Snapshots

Sometimes I paint monsters. Sometimes I paint silly things.

Girl in Boots

A college in my area does a figure drawing marathon once or twice a year. I went yesterday and did a few pieces. Here is my favorite piece, which also happens to be the only one small enough to fit on the scanner (actually I had to scan it in pieces and piece them together). I spent a few hours working from a live clothed model in watercolor and ballpoint.

9/30

Here is a scan/collage of a bunch of pages from my sketchbook. These were all done within around the last two weeks or so. I've been mostly working on figure/life drawing within my school's orchestra (I play the cello normally, but a shortage of school instruments means I get every other day off to draw), but there also are some jarred bird studies for a painting I've been planning and the bent knee of my jeans.

This week, in preparation for the aforementioned bird painting, I painted on gesso'd wood for the first time. As it was just for practice, I wanted to do something expressive and relatively quick. This turned out a lot cartoonier and pop-artier than I expected, but I still like it. It's a nice personal piece, even though it is a little bit depressing... (Acrylic and sharpie on gesso'd wood, by the way)

Here is something cute and cartoony I painted today for fun in some free time I had. Owls are awesome!

Hey Look I am Being Professional

I had a blogspot blog about a year ago, but then I abandoned it. Now, I'm returning to this site to post artwork and studies and so on in a vaguely professional-looking* manner.

Yay, blog.

*Well, it's better than Deviantart, anyway.
