Comics!!!

Here's the cover for something I'm working on. It's sort of a trial short for a drama series about monster fighting adventures. The pages are about 40% done as of now, and I plan to have them finished (and maybe even printed!) before I go back to school. Stay tuned!

I used terrible crayola watercolor paints on the cape to make it more neon. If you use them straight from the pan, you can get some pretty bright colors. They have a waxy texture afterward and can bleed a little, but it's always something nice to have on hand. The more subtle colors I made with nicer watercolors, as the aforementioned cheap ones don't stand up well to mixing.

This is an illustration I started and finished last night. I haven't done any pen/ink watercolors seriously in months, and little things not since a week or two ago, so I made this for practice. I used a DK Environment/Science book for reference on the forest plants. Moss and ferns everywhere!

Making involved environments (or environments at all) is a thing that I never put much effort into until maybe the last year or so. It's actually pretty fun, I enjoy it. Perspective can be kind of a challenge, but the shapes are mostly organic and this was shallow enough that I didn't need to worry about it too much. I need to get out and plein-air paint more so I can have better references.

The character is Daisy Snarlbear, a fantasy hero who has spent the last seven years of her life in the Rainbow Dimension, where she fought monsters, saved tiny rainbow citizens and annoyed the unicorn aristocracy.

Lizard Men and Vampires

This piece was inspired by early-mid 20th century pulp science fiction illustrations and a book about a book about a woman having an affair with a pulp science fiction writer in (I think) the 1940's. I also felt like painting Sam and Laurel. I haven't painted them in awhile.

Girl in Boots

A college in my area does a figure drawing marathon once or twice a year. I went yesterday and did a few pieces. Here is my favorite piece, which also happens to be the only one small enough to fit on the scanner (actually I had to scan it in pieces and piece them together). I spent a few hours working from a live clothed model in watercolor and ballpoint.
